OBITUARY:
Ronald (Ronnie) Jay Sheldon, 68, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sidney, Iowa on December 22, 2024.
Ronnie entered this life on January 9, 1956, in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Delores (Parkison) and Robert Sheldon. Three older brothers greeted him at home, Roger, Randy, and Rick. Ronnie attended Percival School through sixth grade and then attended and graduated with the Sidney High School Class of 1974. While in high school, Ronnie was a standout athlete in football, wrestling, and track where he qualified and placed at the state track meet. He also participated in baseball. In 1976, Ronnie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Independence CV62. Ronnie served active duty for three years and was in the Naval Reserve for an additional three years.
In 1979, Ronnie returned to Percival to help his father with the farming operation. Ronnie also attended Iowa Western College on his return home. In 1981, Ronnie was married and in 1983 welcomed his daughter, Sadie, to the family. He later divorced. Ronnie took over the farming operation when his dad passed in 2005.
Ronnie enjoyed traveling and spent many years fishing in Canada. Ronnie was always ready and willing for a good road trip with his friends. Ronnie enjoyed golf, billiards, and playing cards. He loved his Santana music and was an avid book reader. He was passionate about farming. He helped his brother, at Randy's Bar in Sidney, whenever needed. Ronnie had the opportunity to move Sadie back to Iowa from Arizona in 2011 so he could spend "grandpa time" with his daughter and grandkids. He could fix
anything and was a dedicated son, always ready to help mom with any task around her house. Ronnie was an incredibly quiet and simple man but when he did have something to say, you knew it was going to be witty and bring a smile.
Ronnie is survived by his mother, Delores Sheldon of Percival; daughter Sadie Sheldon of Percival; life partner of 18 years, Cindy Bebout of Sidney; brothers Roger Sheldon and Deb of Sidney, Randy Sheldon and Sandy of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Rick Sheldon and Kathi of Selma, Texas. Grandchildren, Zachary, Jayden, Jamison, and Alexandria Sheldon. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nephews. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Bob.
