Debra Jo Taylor, 73, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, in Sidney, Iowa. Born on August 7, 1951, Debra dedicated her life to her family and community, touching many lives with her caring spirit.
Debra graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Island, NE, and furthered her education at the Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE where she met her husband Bill. Later in life, she returned to college and became a Registered Nurse at Iowa Western Community College. Her professional life was marked by a diverse and compassionate career path, including roles as a Federal Meat Inspector, Veterinarian Technician, worked on the family farm, Surgical Technician, Surgical Nurse, and School Nurse. Each role showcased her dedication to both human and animal care.
A long-time resident of Sidney, Debra was deeply involved in her community. Debra was an active member of the Sidney United Faith Church. Her faith and dedication extended into her community involvement where she helped with the church food stand at the Sidney Rodeo, and was a licensed EMT volunteering with the Sidney Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Debra's love for horses was profound, participating in the parade and grand entry at the rodeo, many trail rides and serving as the Superintendent of the 4-H Horse Program for several years. Debra's commitment to helping others was evident in her donation of over 100 pints of blood with the Red Cross and her coordination and volunteering at blood drives.
Debra's passion for life extended beyond her community involvement. She was a member of the Waubonsie Saddle Club and the Sidney Monday Club. Her love for travel took her and her family and friends around the world, creating unforgettable memories. During retirement, Debra and her husband enjoyed their time as snowbirds in Arizona, where they developed lifelong friendships.
Debra is survived by her loving husband of over 52 years, Bill; son Bryce and daughter-in-law Valarie; grandchildren Emmarie and William; siblings Jan Morgan Eberl, Laurie Stueven, Chris (Steve) Schwieger, Stacey (Mike) McCoy, Rick (Michele) Eberl, and sister-in-law Kathy McElroy; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Delores Eberl, and brother-in-law Eric Morgan.
There will be a Celebration of Life 11:00 AM Monday, November 11, 2024 at the United Faith Church in Sidney, IA. Visitation with the family greeting friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the United Faith Church in Sidney, IA. Private disposition of ashes will be at a later time.
