On June 11, Ronald Sievers passed away at the age of 78 peacefully in West Frankfort, Illinois. Ronald (Ron) was born in Peoria. Illinois to Vernon and Eileen Sievers. He was the oldest of three children. He attended high school at Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Illinois. The day after he graduated in 1964, he left for bootcamp for the United States Navy. Petty Officer 3rd Class Aviation Ordnanceman Ronald Sievers served proudly on the USS Independence where he served at Yankee Station U.S. 7th Fleet in the Vietnam War. Upon return to the States, Ron began working with the Cook County Sheriff's Office where he worked for several years before exploring the Great North in Minnesota to become a farmer and chimney sweep. He returned to Illinois and began working with the Illinois Department of Corrections where he advanced from officer to sergeant to lieutenant and retired in 2007.
Ronald enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially in the outdoors. He was previously active in the Boy Scouts of America with his father, brother, and sons. He enjoyed helping other youth organizations including coaching basketball. He was active with the Independent Order Of Foresters. Ron has been a long-time member of both the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed helping others and giving back to the community. Ron started the Polar Plunge for the Department of Corrections to benefit Special Olympics. He also enjoyed being around motorcycles and boats.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 22 years, Barbara. He is survived by his children Michael Sievers, John Sievers, Kimberly (Mark) Birmingham and step-children Roy Egeditch, Ronny Egeditch, Donica (Tim) Melvin, and Angie (Brandon) Smith. Ron enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren William Birmingham, Brianna Sievers, Isabella Sievers, Tymber Melvin, and Tripp Smith. He is survived by children Vincent Sievers and family and Ron L. Sievers and family. Ronald is survived by his sister, Sherlyn Piatek, brother Brian (Theresa) Sievers, and many other family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents Eileen and Vernon Sievers.
Ronald was a proud patriot, husband, and father. His memorial service will be held on July 5th from 1:00-3:00pm. Ron requested visitors wear patriotic colors to his celebration of life/memorial service.
