Ronald Everette Smith, age 90 of Stone Mountain, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William E. Smith and Bernice Nash Green; stepfather, Dewey C. Green; and infant daughter, Tracy Smith.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Apsley (Mark), Allison Smith; and granddaughters, Holly Apsley and Heidi Apsley.
Ronald Everette Smith (Ronnie or Ron) was born in Decatur, Georgia, on December 27, 1934, to William E. Smith and Bernice Nash. He was their only child since William died unexpectedly two years later. Bernice later married Dewey C. Green.
Ronnie graduated from Decatur High School in 1953, and he served in the Army reserves from 1955-1961. He married Eugenia (Genie) Baldwin in 1960 and worked in the credit department at Gulf Oil Corporation for 28 years until his retirement in 1985. He then went to work at Handy Ace Hardware in Tucker, where he worked for almost 30 years. Ronnie and Genie divorced in 1987, and he met Terry Young in 1988 who became his close friend and companion until her death in 2021.
Ronnie was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs football fan and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and car shows with his friends from his High School years. He also served on construction related mission trips through Smoke Rise Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for almost 50 years. Ronnie loved being a grandfather and was known as a patient, kind and loving Christian man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, GA. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service at the church.
