Ronald "Ron" Francis Sohler, 84, a resident of the North Plains community passed away on May 18, 2025, at the Kaiser Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro.
Ron was born on January 9, 1941, in Hillsboro, OR. He was the seventh of eight children born to William and Barbara (Hillecke) Sohler. He was raised on the family farm in Verboort and attended Verboort grade school and Banks High School graduating in the Class of 1959. After high school Ron joined the Army National Guard from 1959-1963.
He met his wife, Lynetta Bigelow, through a mutual friend. Following a 1 ½ year courtship they married on May 14th, 1966, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro, OR. They made their home in North Plains and had four children, Rhonda, Gary, Ray, and Lyle.
Ron started his career as a carpenter for the Braukman Brothers and was also part owner of the Sunset Golf Course for a time. In the early 1970's Ron began working for Bell Telephone Company as a splicer and worked in the field until his retirement in 2003.
Ron enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and extended family. The family get-togethers usually involved playing pinochle, where Ron was always the one to beat. He was a wood worker and enjoyed home improvement projects around his and his children's homes. He enjoyed watching sports, mainly the Beavers, Seahawks, and Ducks. He was happiest working on his small farm, raising cows, cutting wood, and growing his garden. Ron and Lynn also enjoyed visiting her family in Arizona, Montana, and Washington. They also liked their frequent trips to the Oregon coast, clamming, crabbing, and shopping.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Rhonda Ryan, his parents William and Barbara and six siblings Pauline Vandehey, Madeline Turner, Marie Vandehey, Robert, Willis, and Edward Sohler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, three children and their spouses, Gary and Heidi Sohler of North Plains, Ray and Janel Sohler of North Plains, Lyle Sohler of North Plains. His son-in-law, Bob Ryan of Forest Grove, his sister, Sr. Barbara Rose SSMO, of Beaverton, seven grandchildren, Robert, Ami, Nicky, Chelsea, Ben, Rebecca, and Elizabeth and his great granddaughter, Ellie.
