Ronald “Ron” Sternal
Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa
Ron went home to the Lord on September 17, 2025, at the age of 84 years after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Preceded in death by his parents Leo and Agnes Sternal. Survived by wife of 57 years, Mary; children K. Beckstrom (Jeff), Elizabeth Fletcher (Mike) and Kevin (Amanda); grandchildren Jacob (Maddie), Jenna (Austin), and Elena; great grandchildren Noah and Cooper; and sister Marlyn Sternal.
After graduating from Denfeld High School, Ron worked at the Norshore movie theater to put himself through UMD where he earned an accounting degree. He remained a movie buff and proud Bulldog throughout his life. Ron served in the Air National Guard from 1963-1969, working his way to staff sergeant. Ron and Mary met through a mutual friend in 1967, and they were married the following year. During Ron’s career, he worked for Hamm’s Brewery and, later, Ramsey County Human Services.
He gave to others in big and small ways, including volunteering for the Jaycee’s and Meals on Wheels, coaching Babe Ruth and Legion Baseball, and donating 60 pints of blood through the American Red Cross. After retiring, he also served for many years as an election official. He was an active member of St. Pius, where he held a number of roles, including decades-long service in the eucharistic and adoration chapel ministries.
Friends remember Ron as a below-average golfer, but an above-average grouse hunter. He loved spending time on Lake Superior’s North Shore and on the Gunflint Trail. He was known for his homemade dill pickles. “The Mayor” of Hall Court was known to snow blow neighbors' driveways or wheel back their garbage carts. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He was a loyal, if long-suffering, Vikings fan. He was a doting grandfather and great grandfather.
Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 11:00 am at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3878 Highland Avenue, White Bear Lake with visitation starting at 10:00. Interment will be St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Special Olympics Minnesota or White Bear Lake Food Shelf.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith. He will be deeply missed. SKOL!
