Obituary of Robert Michael Sternal
Robert Michael Sternal (1/21/1929 – 3/21/2024)
Age 95, of Roseville, MN. Bob was born in Duluth, MN. His parents, both of whom are deceased, were Stephen Joseph and Eleanor Lillian Sternal. He had three siblings: Marilyn Carnes (John) – Little Canada, MN; John (Delores) Sternal – Duluth, MN and William Sternal – Pasadena, CA (deceased). He and his wife of nearly 70 years married on 7/3/1954 and had three children: James Sternal (Terri) – Bigfork, MN; Anne Piper (Herb) – St. Paul, MN and Michael Sternal – Monticello, MN. He had four grandchildren: Jennifer Sternal-Johnson (Chris), Thomas Sternal, Jessica Sternal, and Matthew Sternal, and three great-grandchildren: Ethan and Alex Sternal-Johnson and Hunter Sternal.
Bob graduated from Duluth Denfeld HS in 1946, served in the Air Force from 1946-1949 and graduated from UM-Duluth in 1953. Most of his working career was spent in state service. He retired in 1987 as Director of Disability Determination Services. Bob enjoyed outdoor sports, especially fly fishing, and designed and built beautiful furniture for their home and his children's homes. In later years Bob and Mary spent much of the winters in Ft. Pierce, FL.
The thing he enjoyed most in life was seeing his children grow to be responsible, caring adults and seeing the younger generations progressing to adulthood in the same manner. His personal observation was always that he grew up and lived in the best possible time. Bob considered himself blessed. Memorial service April 6th at 1:00 pm at Falcon Heights United Church of Christ, 1795 Holton Street, Falcon Heights, MN 55113. Interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
