Ronald Strother Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Services of Iowa at Ankeny Memorial (MSI) on Dec. 10, 2024.
Ronald (Ron) C. Strother passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 83 at the Bishop Drumm Nursing Home in Johnston, Iowa.
Ron's life will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (517 SW Des Moines St., Ankeny, Iowa) on Friday, December 13, 2024, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m., followed by a private family burial.
Ron was born in Ames, Iowa on March 3, 1941. He graduated from Milford Township High School, after which he attended the University of Iowa studying civil engineering. After attending Iowa, Ron served in the Army National Guard and Navy Reserves. Following his honorable discharge, Ron embarked on a long career in the technology field, working first for the Iowa Department of Transportation and later for the State of Iowa, serving as the Data Base Administrator.
On February 21, 1964, Ron married the love of his life, Roberta (Bobbie) Strother, and they remained happily married for 60 years until his passing. Ron and Bobbie lived in Ankeny, Iowa for most of their 60 years, where they raised their only child, Todd Strother. Ron's first love was his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and friend, and was known for his warmth, humor and willingness to help others. He and Bobbie were loyal members of the Ankeny Golf & Country Club for many years, and he cherished the many friendships he developed there. Ron's second love was the Iowa Hawkeyes. He and Bobbie were season ticket holders for many years, and they always held one of the best tailgates on campus with their family and friends. They also attended a number of bowl games to watch their beloved Hawkeyes.
Ron is survived by his wife Bobbie; his son, Todd (Dana) Strother; his grandchildren, Haiden and Gable Strother; his brother, Bruce (Karen) Strother; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Hazel Strother; and his sister, Jacque Strother.

To the family and friends of Ron Strother, it is with sorrow and deep understanding that we accept the passing of Ron from Milford Twp's outstanding Class of 1959. My thoughts and prayers are extended to all in his memory at this difficult time of closure. He will RIP as he joins many family members and friends awaiting him at the gate. Ronald, Todd, some other family members, and I sky dived together many years ago. It was the first time I met Ron and he could not have been more gracious and welcoming to me as a last second addition to the planned event. Whenever I saw him from then on, we´d reminisce about that crazy and fun day. A true gentleman who loved his family above all else. My prayers to the family and I´m certain he is in heaven.
