Ronald Lee Swanson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home on June 10, 2023, at the age of 75. His life will be honored and celebrated during the funeral services, which will take place at 9:15 AM on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the DFW National Cemetery. Prior to the service, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects and share cherished memories during the visitation on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
There will be an additional memorial service to celebrate Ronald's life held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 16, 2023, at Bullard Methodist Church: 204 Rather St, Bullard, TX 75757.
Ronald was born on February 21, 1948, in Bangor, Maine, to William F. (Bob) Swanson and Sylvia Ruth Hutchins Swanson. He spent his early years in Kilgore, Texas, and graduated from Sabine High School in Liberty City in 1966. Answering the call of duty, Ronald enlisted in the United States Army in 1969 to serve his country during the Vietnam Era. He played a vital role on Okinawa, working on the production of Nike missiles. In recognition of his service, Ronald received an honorable discharge in 1975 after transitioning to reserve status in 1972.
After his military service, he found love and companionship, marrying Dana Glass Lowrance on December 1, 1974, in Shreveport, LA. They relocated to Arlington, TX, in 1975, where Ronald pursued higher education at the University of Texas Arlington. Ronald's dedication extended to his faith, as he was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Arlington and actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a cub and scout leader.
In 1997, Ronald and Dana relocated to Edgewood, Texas, where they became cherished members of Cheatham Memorial Methodist Church. Ronald selflessly led the church's youth group, nurturing and guiding young minds until 2010. In 2012, they settled in Flint, Texas, and continued their spiritual journey as members of Bullard Methodist Church, where Ronald dedicated his time as a High School Sunday School Teacher.
Throughout his professional life, Ronald served as an X-Ray equipment service engineer for 18 years, displaying his technical expertise and commitment to excellence. He touched the lives of many with his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Sylvia Swanson, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Swanson, and his grandson, Derek Swanson. He is survived by his loving wife, Dana Swanson of Flint, Texas; his sons, Patrick Swanson and wife Desiree of Houston, Texas, and Jeffrey Swanson of Denison, Texas; his daughter, Tiffany Swanson Hargis of Wylie, Texas; his brother-in-law, Larry Glass and wife Vickie of Perry, Ohio; his grandchildren, Augustus Swanson of Flint, Texas, Lane Swanson of Wills Point, Texas, Emily Grace Lauterbach of Wylie, Texas, and Matthew Swanson of Murchison, Texas; and his great-grandchildren, Ryker Alan Swanson, Raelyn Whiddon, Cody Allen Swanson, Levi Swanson, Derek Swanson Jr., and Sophie Dodson, and his fur baby Sophie. Ronald also leaves behind numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
In memory of Ronald's compassionate spirit and desire to make a difference, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Center, Cheatham Memorial Methodist Church Youth Group, or Bullard Methodist Church Youth Group.
