Ronald Lee Tanner, 77, of New Martinsville, formerly of Mannington, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at WVU Wheeling Hospital. Known to his friends and family as "Ron'"or "Ronnie" he was born November 18,1946 in Whetstone, a son of the late Randall Tanner and Edith Shaffer.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ethel "Penny" Tanner, whom he married on September 13, 1987; sons: Charlie Tanner, Jimmy (Angela) Cummins, and Chuck (Robin) Cummins ; son-in-law, Eddie Taylor; several grandchildren including Courtney (Shawn) Engle and Rylee Tanner; several great grandchildren including Addison, Cooper, and Lucas Engle; brother, Randy (Jan) Tanner of Cheswick, PA; sisters, Diana "Sue" (Harlen) Batson of Curtisville; and Pamela "Jean"(Barry) Moll of Buckhannon; special aunt, Mary Jo Sharp; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Inda Suzanne Taylor.
Ronald served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a coal miner with 45 years of experience. He was known to have the ability to fix or build anything. He also liked to tinker with cars.
Friends will be received at Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St. Mannington, on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Evangelist Craig Matheny officiating. Interment will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted. Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.hutsonfunerals.com
