NORTH ATTLEBORO – Ronald "Ron" Vacher, a longtime resident of North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022, after a history of Parkinson's disease and diabetes.
Born in Central Falls, RI, to Rita (Chartier) Vacher and Roland Vacher, he was a graduate of Pawtucket Vocational School.
In 2001, Ron retired after a long career as an officer for the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
He loved working with his hands, enjoying a good meal and spending time with friends and family. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Butterworth) Vacher, in 1968, and was happily married for 25 years when she passed away after battling cancer. During his more active years, he liked to travel by taking long, scenic Sunday drives and day trips to the Cape, New Hampshire, Vermont and even Canada. He was an avid card player who enjoyed games with buddies from work and his siblings. And his long walks made him a familiar figure in his neighborhood and that of his children. Ron had five children and was the beloved Pépère to eight grandchildren. He was a dedicated grandparent who acted as an extra pair of hands caring for his grandchildren when they were young, teaching them their ABCs and 123s. He was a loyal and true friend and family member who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his siblings Raymond Vacher, Robert Vacher, Richard Vacher, Jacqueline Lowell and Denise Hawes. He is also survived by his daughters Tiffany Kut and Kerri Vacher (Harbour), and his sons Stephen Vacher and Timothy Vacher. He sincerely loved his daughter-in-law Darah Vacher and his sons-in-law Stephen Kut and Bob HarbourJr. He was the beloved Pépère to Kali, Abbey and Ryan Kut, Jared and Caitlin Vacher, Madeline and Celine Vacher and Ella Reichert-Vacher. He is also survived by a large extended family and too many friends to name. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son Matthew Vacher, his sister Gloria Johnson and his brother Roland Vacher Jr.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM from the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Saint Mark's Church, 105 Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls, with the Reverend Michael Ciryak officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum in Attleboro Falls, where Ron will be laid to rest with his late wife, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
