Ronald Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weber-Hill & Packard Funeral Home - Crandon on Mar. 20, 2026.
Ronald Richard Young, age 79, passed away March 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Anderson, South Carolina.

He was born August 13, 1946, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to Robert and Gladys Worden Young. The oldest of 17 siblings, he lived in Wisconsin and Alaska in his younger years growing up.

Ron served our country faithfully in both the Navy and Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War for the Navy from 1965-1972. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class while working as a missile tech. He served with the USS Charlestown F. Adams and the USNS Richard E. Byrd navy ships. He had the honor of being Rhinelander's first Navy recruiter, working from November 1972 through April 1973. Then from 1979-1981 he served as a Technical Sergeant in air terminal operations for the Air Force.

Ron was employed in telecommunications for much of his career, eventually working for the Rhinelander Telephone Company until its closing. This is where he met the love of his life, Linda. They married on December 10, 2000. They combined their families and enjoyed a happy marriage and life in Amarillo, Texas, until her passing on October 26, 2022.

Ron could fix anything and was a jack of all trades! While his children were growing up, he was always up for a good time. Whether it was hunting, attending auctions, home improvement projects, or weekly visits to family in Monico, he filled his life with people he loved. Family was a big deal, and annual reunions were always memorable, filled with guitar playing and singing. In more recent years, he enjoyed bird watching, playing computer games, cribbage, watching sci-fi movies, discussing politics, fishing and an occasional trip to the casino. His faith was important to him, and he looked forward to being reunited with his Lord and Savior, his loving wife Linda whom he missed greatly, and other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Young, Robert Young, and Mae Dumpprope Young; his wife Linda; four brothers, Larry, Thomas, Bobby and Harry; and one sister Debbie Ellison and daughter in law, Linda Cline.

He is survived by his children: Tony Dumpprope of Rhinelander; Kathy (Tom) Quandt of Rhinelander; Michael Young of Prescott, Arizona; Jaime (Jeremy) Toppe of Lexington, Indiana; Kenny Young of Rhinelander; Beckie (Michael) Riker of Columbus, Indiana; Alexander Young of Austin, Texas; Jamie Cline of Argonne; and Jody Retzlaff of Crandon; his brothers Gene (Joanne), Doug (Lindy), Tony (Susan), Bill (Hope), Jeff (Susie), Tim (Lisa), Steve (Brenda), Ray (Angela); sisters Sherry Spencer, Rita O'Donnell, and Carol Baldock; as well as countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ron's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ron's nephew, Thomas Lee Young for his care an compassion.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crandon at 11:00 am with Father Robert Thorn officiating. Visitation will precede Mass from 9:00-11:00 am. Interment will follow at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery where Military Honors will be Conducted.
