Frederick "Fred" Alderton, 89, of Laona, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, WI, after a brief illness. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Frederick Burnham Alderton, was born April 24, 1936, to Felix and Nina (Russell) Alderton in Laona, WI. He graduated from Laona High School with the class of 1954, later attending UW-Madison for three semesters, where he was involved in the glee club and marching band.

In 1956, he and Kay Allen moved to Arizona. They married and had six children. While in Arizona, Fred worked as an office machine technician in both Phoenix and Tucson.

Fred and his children returned to Laona to work the family farm and dairy business with his parents in 1974. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling to Colorado to hunt and ride ATVs, and hiking, especially in Arizona. One of his favorite trips was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with his sons for his 60th birthday. In his later years he enjoyed feeding and watching his wild birds.

He was a well-loved member of the community and a lifelong member of the Lions Club. He served as the club president three times and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

Fred is survived by five children: Allen (Becky) of Chandler AZ; Jeff (Penny) of Appleton, WI; Mark (Mary) of Aurora CO; Nancy Alderton of Neenah, WI; and Rodney Medenwaldt, of Las Cruces, NM. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Melissa Alderton, Kyle Alderton, Stephanie Alderton, John (Abby) Alderton; Joshua Alderton, Shannon Alderton, and Sarah Alderton, as well as one great-granddaughter, Nona Greenwood. He is further survived by many generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law Patty (Red) LaPlante and Donna (Erv) Klover, and brother and sister-in-law Felix "Pixie" (Carolyn King) Alderton, as well as two children, Dennis and Kim.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Leonard Catholic Church in Laona at a future date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a charitable donation in Freds's honor to the Laona Rescue Squad, 3788 State Hwy 32, Laona, WI 54541.
