Ronnie Ables Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Dixie Highway on Dec. 22, 2025.
Ronnie D. Ables, 78, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 21, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born in Limestone County, Alabama, on July 9, 1947, to his late parents, Hazel and Fred Ables.

He was a man defined by his work ethic and integrity, building his companies from the ground up through determination and perseverance. Beginning his life on a cotton farm in Alabama, he carried the values of hard work and honesty with him as he forged a lasting legacy in Kentucky-one that would be passed down for generations. In all his dealings, he was known for his fairness and straightforward nature, never willing to take advantage of others. He was generous with his family, friends, and strangers alike. Ronnie was always in a hurry to get on to the next thing. He showed his love through providing, ensuring stability, opportunity, and a solid foundation for those who came after him.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald "Shawn" Ables; brothers, Dewey, Calvin, and Clay Ables; and sisters, Magdalene Lovell and Annis June McKinney.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Jean Ables; children, Greg Ables (Tammy) and Polly Gentry (David); grandchildren, Krystle Veach (Allen), Jennifer Lovewell (Nathan), Dalton Gentry, Connor Ables, Jacob Ables (Kaelynn), Payton Ables, and Emma Ables; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Willoughby (Mack); brothers, Kenneth Ables (Lois), Melvin Ables (Glenda), Curtis Ables, Jimmy Ables (Annie), David Ables (Faye), Wade Ables (Darlene), Wayne Ables (Darlyne); his close friend, Adam Alvey; and his personal caregiver, Nicole Duggins.

Ronnie's funeral services will be held at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. The visitation will take place on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place the following day at 11:00 AM, with cremation to follow.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to St. Paul School.
