Ronnie Sumner Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 22, 2025.
Ronnie Roy Sumner, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025. He was born on March 28, 1934, and lived a life defined by service, integrity, and deep devotion to family. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary (Turi) Sumner.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nancy (Frederiksen) Sumner, whose unwavering love and devotion were especially evident as she lovingly cared for him during his battle with Parkinson's disease. In his final years, the family witnessed the challenges he endured with grace and quiet strength, and they now take comfort knowing his suffering has ended.

A proud veteran, Ronnie served as a Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, a role that reflected his strength, discipline, and commitment to service.

Ronnie placed a high value on education. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan (Go Blue) and his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University. He later completed a Master's degree in Taxation from Wayne State University. Education was a lifelong priority, and he guided all of his children and grandchildren to value learning, perseverance, and purpose.

Following his military service and education, Ronnie became a respected attorney in both Macomb and Oakland Counties, known for his integrity, professionalism, and dedication to those he served.

Ronnie was a loving and devoted father to his three children: Scott (Cynthia) Sumner, Staci (Chris) Haney, and Kari (Don) Broussard. He was also a cherished grandfather to Hannah Sumner, Emily Sumner, Karli Monahan, and Mitchell Monahan, who will forever miss this truly remarkable and guiding force in their lives.

As Ronnie begins his eternal journey to the "Cadillac Yard in the Sky", his family asks to watch over him-free from pain, free from suffering. May Ronnie keep his hand outstretched as he waits for when he must welcome his "Mrs." into Heaven, where love endures, and they will walk together again, hand in hand, for eternity.
