"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing."
II Timothy 4: 7-8
Roosevelt Chisley, Jr. entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
Roosevelt was born on January 10, 1964, to his loving parents, Roosevelt Chisley, Sr. and Carolyn Sue Lewis-Chisley in the city of Rayville, LA. He was the second born of six children. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Chisley and his grandparents. As a child, Roosevelt was entertaining and loved to play basketball. As he grew up, he loved cars and as a jack-of-all-trades, he could fix anything.
Perhaps, the only thing that he couldn't do was sing and was not in the church choir. In church, he served as an usher and was christened at Poplar Chapel A.M.E. He matriculated through Sherrouse Elementary School, Carroll Jr., Lee Jr, and Carroll High School. He was a proud member of the Carroll High School Class of 1982. After graduation, he went on to Northeast Louisiana University.
Roosevelt left college and began to work at Union Oil Mill on Trenton St. in West Monroe, LA. and worked there for 15 years. Following that, he became the Custodial Supervisor at Northeast Louisiana Veterans home for over 16 years. His career brought him back to Northeast (now University of Louisiana at Monroe). He worked in Malone Stadium and was much beloved by coaches, players, and staff and always had merchandise from the program. He worked there until his health forced him to retire in February 2023.
Roosevelt loved life and living. He is the father of two children, Marcus Isaiah Chisley and Evangelist Missionary Erika Sha Chisley-Louis from his first marriage to Darlene Slack. He loved his grandchildren and always extended a welcome for them to participate in his favorite pastime, fishing! The only thing he loved as much as fishing was ULM and the New Orleans Saints. He was a joy to know and had a smile that could brighten a room.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Roosevelt Chisley Sr. and Carolyn Sue Lewis-Chisley; children, Marcus Isaiah Chisley (Quamale), and Evangelist-Missionary Erika Sha Chisley-Louis (Fredrick); siblings, Jacqueline Elaine Chisley-Harmon (Harvey), William Lamont Chisley, Michael Eugene Chisley (La'Trichelle), and Cyolonda Chrishon Chisley-Williams (Derrick); grandchildren, Emmerie Darnette Chisley, Rayna Ja'nae Hannon, Genesis Grace Chisley, and Milanni Nevaeh Lawson; nieces, Christie Williams and A'Bria Chisley; nephews, Randy Elliott, DezMeon Chisley, and Christopher Williams; great-nephews, Amari Elliott, Aalijah Elliott, and A'darian Elliott. He also leaves his significant other, Mary Mitchell and a host of cousins, friends, and family.
