Roosevelt Levy, 86 of Sumter, SC departed his earthly life at Prisma Tuomey Hospital of Sumter SC on Friday, March 4, 2022, after an extended illness. He was the first born of nine children to the late Theodore Roosevelt Levy and Isabel McLeod Levy on March 26, 1935, in Bishopville, SC. Roosevelt was a devoted and a cherished member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, in Sumter, SC. He served faithfully in various areas, such as the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, Men's Choir, United Methodist Men, and was a dedicated member of the Church Trustee and Steward Board. He was also a faithful Custodian and Groundskeeper until his health would no longer permit him. For years, Roosevelt served as a Boys and Cub Scout Troop Leader, Second Vice-President of the Local Union, and other organizations in and outside of church. He always displayed a spirit of service towards others. Roosevelt was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1954. After high school, he went on serve in the Military and then married his late ex-wife, Dorothy L. Watson Levy. From this union, they were blessed with six wonderful children together. Later on in life, he fathered two children with his devoted friend and companion, Ms. Juanita Miller of Sumter, SC. During Roosevelt's career he worked at Southern Coatings, Inc. and Sumter Dairy Company as a Manufacturing Technician. He also managed properties and ran a lawncare service. In addition to his parents and late ex-wife, Roosevelt was proceeded in death by brother George Levy, son Timothy Paul Levy, three granddaughters Kiara Goodman, Tytianna Pringle, and T'yanna Miller, two grandsons Olajawon Junious and Eddie Lee Pringle, III, and two brothers-in-law Virgil Brooks and Eddie McNair. Loved ones left to cherish his loving memory: devoted friend and companion Juanita Miller, Sumter, SC; two sons, Solomon (Darlene) Levy, Macon, GA, and Simon (Vicky) Levy, Sumter, SC; five daughters, Laverne (James) Jackson, Irmo, SC, Janet (Conroy) Jackson, Columbia, SC, Jacqueline (Kevin) Curry, Columbia, SC, Shonda Miller (Samuel), Sumter, SC, and Tamika Miller, Sumter, SC; three stepchildren, Carolyn (Ronald) Junious, Pamela Miller, Sumter, SC, and Edward Miller, Sumter, SC; former daughter-in-law, Jennifer Levy Gadson; three brothers, James Levy, Charlotte, NC, John Edward (Juanita) Levy, Pinewood, SC, Andrew (Gwendolyn) Levy; four sisters, Olivia Levy Brook, Tampa, FL, Ronetta McNair, St. Petersburg, FL, Sarah (Wilbert) Perry, Sumter, SC, and Doris Levy Shipp, Tampa, FL; twenty grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren; nephews, nieces, and other host of loved ones who will miss him dearly.
