Roosevelt Locklear Jr. was born on 10-09-1954 and departed this life on 05-26-2024. He is preceded in death by his son Robert Patick Locklear, his parents Mr. Roosevelt and Mrs. Genora Locklear, two daughters Ms. Rebecca Fields and Ms. Cecelia Locklear, Nine sisters Annie Lee, Pauline, Jessie Lois, Jean, Jacquline (Jack), Beverly, Cecelia, Marilyn, and Regina (Susie), Six brothers Doyles (Ray), Martin Luther, Jerry, Bobby Dean, Ronald Dean, Michael; one granddaughter, Kristy Pinkleton; his good friend Willie James Locklear; his nephew Christopher D. Oxendine.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving, loyal, and devoted wife, Sherly C. Locklear of 37 years; his grandson, Waylon Cummings of the home; eight daughters, Michelle Jones and Marie Lattimore (Peewee) of Wilson, Monica Fields of Maxton, Holly Miller (Bryan) of Fairmont, Jennifer R. Cummings and Joyce Hunt of Pembroke, Yolanda Jones of Lumberton, and Trystal Hunt of Rowland; one son Johnny R. Cummings of Pembroke; two brothers, Donald Locklear of Red Springs, and Mitchell (Melanie) Locklear of Pembroke; three sisters, Maria Jones (Rita) of Rowland, Mesca Locklear (Bo) of Lumberton, and Maxine (Doug) Hunt of Pembroke; a very special niece, Tisha Locklear of Lumberton; a great-great niece Jenna Jones of Fayetteville; his special and loyal friends, Leavira Chavis, Danny & Maxine, and MaLaria Locklear of Pembroke; his adopted son, Bobby (Junior) R. Hunt Jr.; his 48 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his nieces, nephews, and cousins; 2 aunts, Ms. Shelby Chavis and Ms. Christine Brayboy; and a host of family and friends.
He worked all aspects in construction work, laying gas lines, working in feed mills, building waste treatment plants, and various other jobs. The job he valued and loved most was his job with the Town of Pembroke (Public Works) were he worked as a plant operator, a backhoe operator (occasionally), and motor grader operator. He received numerous certifications for water waste management. He held this position for 15 years from 02/01/1996 until 02/01/2011. He loved his job until his retirement.
Roosevelt Jr. never met a stranger. He had big heart and was always willing to help someone in need. He was known for his excellent memory and his superior mathematical skills. He was our very own family historian. He will be tremendously missed by his family and friends.
