Rosa L. Hardin, age 80, passed on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was born on February 2, 1944 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Edward and Juel Barbour-Cherry.
On February 16, 1962 she married Rev. John Lewis Hardin and became the mother of 5 daughters: Juel Hardin, Brenda Hardin, Linda Hardin, Wanda Hardin, and Johnetta Hardin.
Rosa had a strong faith and started her journey with Christ at a very young age. She joined Howard Chapel Baptist Church in New Albany, Indiana on April 4,1952. She attended New Albany High School and soon after school became a devoted mother and wife. She took pride in her work at Kiddie Kampus and St. Mark's Child Development Center as a childhood caregiver. However, her most treasured role was as a homemaker and she dedicated her life to raising her daughters.
Rosa was very committed to her faith and was an active member at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a missionary for the sick and shut in. She also loved praising the Lord through gospel music.
Rosa leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters: Brenda Hardin, Linda Hardin, Wanda Hardin, and Johnetta Hardin; grandchildren: Doneiska Hardin, Rae’Shonda Davis, Braylin Hardin, and Perion Sharp; great grandchildren: Sy’er Hardin and Iryah Board, sister, Alvilda Jones, brother, Melvin Cherry, niece, Mo’sha Myles-Harris, and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Cherry, mother, Juel Barbour-Cherry, husband, Rev. John Lewis Hardin, daughter, Juel Elizabeth Hardin, sisters: Wanda Cherry and Charlotte Grace, brother, William “Squenche” Edward Cherry, niece, Pamela Newton, and nephew, Gene Cherry.
Visitation will be between 10:00am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2020 Maryland Ave., New Albany, IN, 47150. The funeral service begins at 1:00 pm at the same location.
Memorial contributions can by made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana.
