Rosa Elida Valdez

Rosa Elida Valdez of Kenner, Louisiana passed away surrounded by family at the age of 91 on Sunday, August 10, 2025, after a brief illness in Ochsner Hospital. Rosa was born on November 20, 1933 in Zacapa, Guatemala and grew up in Guatemala City, Guatemala. After earning her education degree, she worked as a dedicated and selfless teacher for 25+ years of service to countless generations of girls laying the foundation for better education in her home country. As a teacher, she focused on grade school students and volunteered her personal time to help disadvantaged community members with literacy and numeracy classes in addition to raising a family. Rosa and Miguel began the move to the United States in the early 1970s to begin a new chapter as a family. Rosita, as she was affectionately known, was the loving daughter of Beatriz Contreras, sister of Maria Luz Vandenhoff, and devoted wife of Miguel Ruben Valdez. She was a loving mother and survived by her four boys (Edwin, William, Ivan, and Sergio) and two daughters-in-law (Winy and Janaise), and beloved grandmother of her ten grandchildren Francisco, Jose, Winifred, Kristie, Amy Natalie, Elizabeth, Sofia, Daniel, and Gabriel. She's also survived by six great-grandchildren Rafael, Lia, Teo, Skylar, Emry, and Rowan. Rosa was an exemplary hard-working woman, a tireless collaborator, and a loyal, generous, loving and supportive friend. Rosita especially enjoyed taking care of her little parrot (Tuko), who had been her faithful companion for the last few years. Her warm memory remains in the hearts of those who knew her. Rosa's time on this earth was marked by love, compassion and an unwavering faith in God. Her passing left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by her. We ask you to remember her not for how her life ended, but for how she lived it and for the profound impact she had on those who had the pleasure of knowing her. The family expresses their gratitude to all the medical personnel who cared for her during her time of need. The memorial service for our beloved mother will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at L.A. Muhleisen Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd. Kenner, LA 70062. • Visitation for close family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m. • The memorial service will follow from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
