Rosaria "Rose" S. DeTorres
Rosaria S. DeTorres passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at CareOne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bridgewater, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in the Bronx, New York, to the late Alfonso and Vincenza Rossetti, Rosaria spent her early years in the Bronx before living in Long Island and Edison, New Jersey. She eventually settled in Warren, New Jersey, where she and her husband raised their beautiful family. Later in life, she and her husband enjoyed living in Florida before returning to Warren, and in 2022, she made her home in Bridgewater.
Rosaria was an extraordinary woman whose life was defined by love, elegance, and devotion to family. She and her beloved husband, Aristide DeTorres, built a wonderful life together and raised seven children. While Rosaria was a dedicated homemaker, she also worked as a bookkeeper well into her late sixties, contributing her skills to several companies throughout the area. It was during her time at American Can Company-where she worked as a bookkeeper and Aristide as a mail clerk-that the two first met, quickly fell in love, and began a lifelong journey together.
Rosaria was a woman of many talents and interests. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, often making her own clothing with care and precision. She also sewed many clothes for her children. A spirited mah-jongg player and a voracious reader, she was both social and intellectual, always engaging those around her with her warmth and kindness. Her family lovingly recalls that she would never leave the house unless she was impeccably dressed-complete with hair and makeup done to perfection. She took great pride in her appearance, a reflection of her lifelong appreciation for style and grace. In her younger years, one of her closest friends was a buyer for a high-end department store, often gifting her exclusive designer samples that matched her sophisticated taste.
Above all, Rosaria was devoted to her family. Her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished keeping up with their lives, celebrating their milestones, and sharing in their joys. Her deep love and nurturing spirit will live on through each of them.
Rosaria was predeceased by her loving husband, Aristide DeTorres, in 2016, as well as her daughter Deborah Phillips, her son Michael DeTorres and a grandson Aristide DeTorres. She is survived by her children, Karen DeTorres and her partner, Guthrie Packard, Aristide "Chuck" DeTorres, Bruce DeTorres and his wife Mary, Rosanne DeTorres and her partner, Colette Martorana, and Richard DeTorres and his wife Kimberly; daughter-in-law Leanne DeTorres. She also leaves behind eleven cherished grandchildren-Andrew, Anthony, Chelsea, Ann Marie, Stephen, Angela, Tomi Jane, William, Cody, Emelia, and Arielle-and three adored great-grandchildren, Logan, Avery, and Lucy Jane.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard,
Watchung, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, where Rosaria will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Rosaria will be remembered for her unwavering love, timeless elegance, and the strong family foundation she built-a lasting legacy that continues through all who were fortunate to know her.
