Rose Marie Butler, age 93, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, IA.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church - St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Peter Pham. Lector for the Mass will be Mary Beth Polich. Gift Bearers will be Molly and Austin Gehm. Casket bearers will be Mike Humlicek, Perry Ryan, Eric Niceswanger, Rycke Fisch, Tom Riesenberg, and Jeff Bakke. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

Rose was born May 23, 1932 in Carroll, IA, and was the daughter of Louis and Marie (Reicks) Niehaus. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy. Rose worked several jobs following high school and was married to Leslie “Les” Butler on September 15, 1952 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll by Fr. Poeckes. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, Hallmark Greeting Cards, St. Lawrence School in the cafeteria, and she volunteered for American Red Cross. Rose enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, making baby blankets for the hospital, crafts, and most of all spending time with her family. Rose has made her home with her daughter Kyla in Johnston since November of 2024 and most recently at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale where she received excellent care.
Rose is survived by her daughter Kyla Gehm of Johnston, IA; two grandchildren: Molly Gehm of Waukee and Austin Gehm (Dena) of West Des Moines; a great-grandson Luca; a great-granddaughter Rose; two sisters: Letha Gillis (Larry) of Ohio and Mary Niehaus of Storm Lake, and several nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Les Butler in 2022; her son David Butler in August of 2025; her son-in-law Tim Gehm; her parents Louis and Marie Niehaus; her in-laws David and Anna Butler; two sisters Bernie Andrews (Wayne) and Leota Ryan; two brothers: Don Niehaus and Merle Niehaus; and a sister-in-law Lois Cline (Dale).
