HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Rose L. Cernuto, 90, an area resident since 1995, passed away peacefully at the Pines at Poughkeepsie on May 1, 2022. She previously lived in the Bronx until 1971 and Thornwood from 1971-1995.
Born in the Bronx on July 29, 1931, Rose was the daughter of the late Rafaele and Mary (Lazazzara) Girardi. On January 11, 1959 at St. Theresa's Church in the Bronx, she married Frank Michael Cernuto who predeceased her in 2013.
She was a master upholstery seamstress, but first and foremost she was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Rose was a kind and caring woman who was loved by all. She will forever be remembered as a "Gentle Soul" by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Diana and Chris Dighton of Bridgewater, CT, Rosemary and Joe Vinci of Hopewell Junction, Julie and Nick DiBlasio of Stamford, CT, and June and Eric Fischer of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Balcer, Lisa and Kevin Cunningham, Anna Vinci, Caterina Vinci, Frankie Carozza, Anthony Carozza, Theresa DiBlasio, and Nicholas DiBlasio; her great-grandson, Elliot; her sister, Frances Russo and her husband Ignazio; her sister-in-law, Terri Girardi; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rose was also predeceased by her brothers, Peter Girardi and Frank Girardi.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 12 pm at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
