Susan Lesiw Brown

HOPEWELL JUNCTION / POUGHKEEPSIE - Susan Lesiw Brown, 81, an area resident since 1969, died on February 7, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She previously lived in Bergenfield, NJ and Rockland County.

Born on December 19, 1944, in Manhattan, Susan was the daughter of the late Denys and Catherine (Leavy) Lesiw. She attended Blessed Sacrament High School in Manhattan and then relocated to New Jersey with her family, and graduated from Bergenfield High School. She had been employed as a dental assistant for many years at the Hopewell Dental Group.

Susan was a rare beauty inside and out. Her love of family and faith empowered her life. She had an infectious smile and a warm, loving personality that drew people to her with a long-lasting effect. In her younger years, she enjoyed participating in sports, bowling, and playing softball on the Lil Darling Team. Susan had a natural artistic ability. She loved to crochet and afforded several members of the family with blankets according to their specifications. One quick lesson in stained glass and she produced a two-foot-wide butterfly that is a work of art. Susan was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a faithful member of the Daley Road Kingdom Hall in Poughkeepsie, NY. Along with her deep spirituality, Susan treasured time with her family, with a special affection for her new great-granddaughter.

Susan is survived by her children, Robert Brown, Wendy Gilligan, Steven Brown and his wife Michelle, and Scott Brown; her grandchildren, Joshua and Madison Gilligan, Justin Brown, and Alexa and Scott Cookinham; her great-granddaughter, Raelyn Cookkingham; her sister, Elaine Lesiw Galatis; her brother, Denys Lesiw Jr. and his wife Donna; her nieces and nephews, Zachariah Galatis, Daniel Mancuso, Jennifer Wilson, Christopher Lesiw, and Matthew Lesiw; and many cherished friends who she considered family.

In addition to her parents, Susan was also predeceased by her former husband, Dr. Stanley Brown; her grandsons, Kevin Brown and Daniel Brown; her sister, Denise Lesiw Ott; her niece, Michelle Ott; and her nephew, Michael Ott.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 3:30 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 76 Daley Rd Poughkeepsie NY 12603.
