Lafayette, LA for Rose Mari Espina Gahn, 62, who passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Calcutta House at Hospice of Acadiana in
Lafayette, LA.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
A Rosary will be recited by Rose Mari's family on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 10:15 am, followed by The Nurse Honor Guard, Nightingale Tribute at 10:45 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in
Lafayette, LA.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in
Lafayette, LA.
Father Howard Blessing, of Lafayette, will officiate.
Rose Mari Espina Gahn, was born January 25, 1963, in Manila, Philippines, raised in New Orleans, LA and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. After high school, Rose Mari attended the University of New Orleans, and continued her education at the Louisiana State University School of Nursing in New Orleans and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Later, Rose Mari relocated to
Lafayette, LA and was employed at the University Medical Center of Lafayette, until her retirement. Her passion, commitment and skills in the emergency room and other areas touched many lives throughout her years of working.
Rose Mari was an avid gardener, traveled and loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays with her family. Monthly breakfast meetings were always marked on her calendar to gather with her nursing friends, to laugh and share fond memories. Her most valued and honored moments, were one of being a caregiver to her husband, mother, father and brother, as well as her sister-in-law. Rose Mari adored her dogs, Zoe and Sally. She was a parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette. Rose Mari most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family meant everything to Rose Mari, and she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.
Rose Mari is survived by her mother, Marina Estrella Espina, Librarian Emeritus, the University of New Orleans, of Maurice, LA; her sister, Lourdes Espina Vall and her husband, Gregory, of Covington, LA; her brother, Salvador Estrella Espina, of Dallas, TX; her aunts, Josie Gerasta, of New Orleans, LA, Dr. Evelyn Pinpin, of Manila, Philippines and Jeannette Baum, of Frankfurt, Germany; her uncle, Ray Ibay, of Kenner, LA; her niece, Teresa Christina Maal and her husband, Andrew, of Garland, TX; her three nephews, Gregory Thomas Vall, of Covington, LA, Ezra John Vall and his wife, Lauren, of Hammond, LA and Mark Nathaniel Vall, of Covington, LA; her great-nephew, Silas Abel Vall; her great-niece, Chiara Rose Maal; her cousins, Jennie, Marcia, Steve, Jerry and Mary Lou, and family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 28 years, Terrence Ray Gahn, Jr.; her father, Cipriano De Lara Espina, Jr., Philippine Honorary Consul General, of New Orleans, LA; her brother, Emmanuel Espina and her aunt, Merlin Ibay.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Calcutta House at Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Rose Mari and her family.
