It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Marie Souva, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on February 6, 2025, under the care of her family and Hospice of the Valley. Rosie's life was a testament to kindness, resilience, happy spirit, and unwavering love for her family.
Rosie was born March 21, 1946, in Watertown, New York to the late Lester and Emma (Lilly) Grandjean. When Rosie was two her mother passed away and Lester married Shirley Gardner. Shirley loved and raised her as one of her own, along with one sister (Molly), three half-sisters (Cindy, Rita, Diane) and one half-brother (Reg).
Rosie graduated from Lowville Academy in 1963 and went on to graduate from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown, New York in 1966. She passed her state boards on the first attempt and became a Registered Nurse. Throughout her life she maintained a lasting friendship with her nursing school sisters. As a nurse she enjoyed a long and happy career retiring as the Director of Nursing for Westchester Care Center in Tempe, Arizona. Laughter and genuine loving caring being her guiding principles.
Rosie married Michael Souva in 1967. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising four wonderful children: Sean, Mark (Katrina), Patrick (Tricia), and Tammy. Rosie's devotion to her family was unwavering, and she found immense joy in being a grandmother to her eight cherished grandchildren.
Rosie's legacy is one of love, kindness, smiles and laughter. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle spirit, and her boundless capacity to give. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, to know her was to love her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care during her final days. A special thank you is also extended to Rosie's dear friends and neighbors for their unwavering support and kind words to the family.
Celebrations of Rosie's life will be held in Arizona and in Northern New York.
Times and locations to be announced later.
Rest in peace, dear Rosie, your light will continue to shine in our hearts forever along with your laughter and smile.

Mike and family, Sincere condolences on the loss of Rosie. Many good memories from our days in Nursing School at Mercy and times following when she would visit her home or at our reunions. She was "one of a kind" and always left everyone smiling. She fought hard for a long time, but was so positive. She will be missed.

My name is Janet Blair Pate, and Rosie was like a sister to me. We went to Lowville Academy together, and spent weekends at her house in Martinsburg or my house in Lowville. We had so many great times. I will always remember her.
