Rosemarie Scannapieco, 75, formerly of Fairfield, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at St. Clares Hospital.
Rose was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late James and Gladys Flynn, and was raised in Bergenfield, NJ. Rose met the love of her life, Peter, in the summer of 1971 and were able to reconnect on a skiing trip at Hunter Mountain in 1975. The pair were married shortly after.
The couple spent most of their married life in Fairfield, NJ before moving to Denville last year. She was a lifelong devout catholic and found peace and joy through her faith in God.
Rose always had a love for the outdoors. As a young woman she could be found reading her favorite books and passages in the summer by a pool or her sun filled deck, and skiing in the winter on her favorite mountains. She enjoyed staying active throughout the years, and you could often find her on hikes enjoying nature.
Rose also enjoyed traveling. In recent years she took trips to Italy and Canada. She also enjoyed keeping her mind active with crossword puzzles and keeping everyone's bellies full with her new-found recipes and restaurants.
She had a deep love for her family. The best times for her were spent with her beloved husband, sons, and grandchildren amongst family and friends.
She will be remembered as a loving, kind, and a proud Irish woman who would give a hand to anyone in need.
She is survived by her husband Peter W. Scannapieco of Denville, NJ and two sons, Peter J. Scannapieco and his wife, Amanda, of Windham, NH and Michael Scannapieco and his wife, Emily, of Hoboken, NJ; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Mam-mah": Mika, Knox, Shay and Vawn; her sisters Diane Bono and Sharon Murgittroyd and their families; as well as the extended Scannapieco family.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 28th, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway, NJ 07866. A Liturgy of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Denville. Burial will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.

My deepest sympathies to Rose Marie's family. I just found out about her passing this morning (July 5). We were classmates at St. John the Evangelist School in Bergenfield and were part of a group from the Class of '63 that got together regularly, usually at least once a year. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing.

I first met Rosemarie as a young child when she visited my mother Mary, her first cousin, in Dublin, Ireland. What a lovely lady! I send my deepest condolences to her family at this difficult time. Today I had the privilege of offering Mass for the repose of her soul. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Tom Casey SJ, Dublin, Ireland

Dear Peter and family,

Our deepest condolences for your heartbreaking loss. From our first meeting, we all loved Rose, who was one of the kindest, most compassionate, and caring women we were ever blessed to know.

For over 50 years, Rose´s beaming smile, genuine caring and loving kindness, graced our friend gatherings, reunions and the occasions that marked our group members´ milestones. Rose will always be missed and always lovingly remembered.

Rose´s soul had a boundless passion, underpinned by her strong faith, that fostered a deep, loving wisdom that radiated outward to touch us all, especially in challenging times. Her gentle, non-judgmental presence and quiet strength reminded us, that we are never alone and that one day, we will all be together, forever, in Heaven. My gratitude to sweet Rose, for calmly understanding my heart and providing this comfort after my daughter died, will always remain.

May you rest in peace dear Rose, at the right hand of the Father and celebrate with the angels, the great spiritual bounty of your well-lived Christian life! May your love and light fill the hearts of your loved ones, especially Peter, Peter and Michael, with warm memories to soothe their suffering, and brighten their spirits, until you meet again.

Love
Anita & John
