Rosemary Dorta Eckert, 82 of Hayesville, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at her residence, following a short bout with cancer. Rosemary was born in Queens, New York and moved to Miami, Florida at the age of ten with her family. She was a graduate of North Miami High School and soon started flying the skies as a Delta Airlines Flight Attendant. Rosemary retired from Delta after thirty-nine years of service. Flying and her family were her life and passion. She enjoyed rug hooking, crocheting, exercising, Majong and reading. Following the loss of her husband, she enjoyed spending time in Maine with her sister-in-law. She enjoyed winter and walking in the snow. Rosemary formed close and lasting friendships throughout her professional and personal experiences. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, that she held so dear.
She was born to the late Roy Anthony and Rose Elizabeth Walsh Dorta, a traditional Catholic family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband Richard B. Eckert. She was also preceded in death by a brother Roy Anthony Dorta Jr. and a nephew, Ronald Dickens.
Surviving are one sister, Peggy Dickert and husband, Andy of Hayesville, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Pam Dorta of Houlton, Maine; two nephews, Michael Dickens and wife, April and Kenneth Dickens; four nieces, Marie Dooley and husband, Brian, Marjorie Mitter and husband, Mark, Christine Blandino and husband, Peter, Angela Lopez and husband, Steven; she is also survived by many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville with Father Bill Breedlove officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in memory of Rosemary Dorta Eckert to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command, P.O. Box 930188 Norcross, Georgia 30093.
