Rosendo Aviles Mendoza, was born on September 27, 1926, in Phoenix, AZ, to Rosa Aviles Mendoza and Rosendo Verdugo Mendoza. 

He passed away April 16, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ, at the age of 97. He is survived by his sons Guillermo (Willie) & David, daughters Rosa, Consuelo (Connie) & Esperanza and brother Joaquin and sister Betty. 

Rosendo leaves behind a legacy of 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren & 12 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 77 years Juanita, his brothers Apolonio, Ramon, Federico, Raul, his sister Consuelo, his sons Rosendo (Sonny) & Gilberto, daughter Ysabel and great granddaughters Brianna & Catarina.

Rosendo served in the United States Army for 2 years, 11 days. Private First Class Rosendo A Mendoza was in the 5th Cavalry Regiment as a Rifleman in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Rosendo received the Philippine Liberation ribbon with a bronze star, the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal, the World War 2 victory medal and the Army of Occupation medal. Six years after his service, in 1952, he started his career with the City of Phoenix as a street sweeper and retired 35 years later in 1987.

He will be greatly missed by all and always remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, watching boxing on TV, playing cards, his collection of shot glasses and coins, reading the newspaper, going to the casino, feeding the birds and dancing.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 26, 2024 with a funeral service to start at 10:30 A.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Burial to follow at 11:45 A.M. at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix.
