When God chose Mamma to be the wife of our Papa for sixty-nine and a half years, Mama/Mother to Bettie Lou and Bub, Mamma to her 5 grandkids, 10 great grandkids, and 12 great-great grandkids, Aunt Rosie to all her nieces and nephews, and "Rosia Lee" to all her friends, He certainly blessed us with the very best! Mamma was so loved and adored by all of us, and we always knew how much she loved each one of us. She was so proud of her family!
Mamma was an excellent cook, and we never left her house hungry. Whether she was cooking a pot of beans or peas and cornbread, fried taters and onions in her iron skillet, meatloaf, porcupine meatballs, spinach and eggs, frying squash or okra from her garden, liver and onions for Bub, potato salad, banana pudding, her famous chocolate pies, pecan pies with the pecans chopped so fine for Papa, cherry cream cheese pies, and so many more delicious things, there was always great food and visiting around her table. These are memories our family will cherish forever.
Many years raising her kids were spent at church and helping in any way she was needed. Mamma had a quiet sweet spirit and always had a servant's heart. Retiring from the Wortham Nursing Home after working there over 20 years as a CNA, she taught us strong work ethic, and how proud she was to take care of the elderly. She loved her patients and co- workers and went the extra mile to make sure they were taken care of. She was such an example to all of us. Her love for Jesus could be seen in her daily walk and through her prayers. She was a prayer warrior, and if you're at her services or reading her obituary online, it's a pretty good chance, she prayed for you too!
Speaking for the family, we can say we were spoiled by our Mamma. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for us if she had the means to do it. We had so much fun with her, and she always made each of us feel loved and to know we were special to her. Her hugs and smiles she gave us and all the great times we spent with her whether eating at her house or eating out at Sam's, the Farm House, or Ponte's, (some of her favorite places for us to take her), going on fun outings with her, riding around with her and Papa, the trips taken, the forty-two games played, the Bible stories read to us, the music we listened to with her and the television shows we watched with her, the Monday Night Football games watched with her and Papa...all these special times with her we will carry in our hearts for always. For all the love she gave each of us, for all the memories we will always cherish, we are so thankful to the Lord for her life and blessing the world with her presence for 96 years. It's not goodbye, it's we'll see her again one day and look forward to spending eternity with her.
