Charles Ross Hauck, age 76, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. He was born on November 14, 1948, to Arthur and Lela (Rose) Hauck in Miltonvale, KS.
Ross graduated from Miltonvale High School, attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College, and Colby Community College receiving a degree as a Veterinary Technician. He later earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at Kansas State University (EMAW) He began his career working at a private Veterinary practice, and soon joined the Kansas State Veterinary College working in the Diagnostic Lab.
In 1980, Ross began volunteering for the Riley County Rural Fire Department, serving in numerous roles over more than 44 years of volunteer service. Ross followed his passion for Fire Fighting and in 2002 he joined the Kansas Forest Service as a Fire Prevention Specialist. Ross worked on countless federal forest fires across the western states and cherished his time working to save and protect our National Forests. He retired from the Forest Service in 2018 as the Kansas Associate Forester. Despite his retirement from the state, he continued to serve his community as a volunteer fire fighter.
Ross married Sharon (Seematter) Hauck August 7, 1971, in Frankfort, KS. Born to this marriage were two sons, Kevin S. Hauck and Bryan P. Hauck.
He was a man who didn't know a stranger, he took pride in always helping others, and always had a story to tell. Ross took pride in being an amazing father to his boys and Papa to his grandkids. He was always happiest working on projects with his sons and helping teach new things to his grandkids and step grandkids.
Ross is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Hauck, Manhattan; sons, Kevin Hauck, (Naomi) San Diego, CA, and Bryan Hauck (Michelle) Wamego, KS, and
grandchildren, Abryana Hauck, Brecken Hauck; and step-grandchildren, Dallas, Cheyenne, Ryann, McKayla, and Austin, and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Arthur Hauck in 1964, Lela Hauck in 1993, and a brother, Earl Hauck in 1968.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Casual dress is encouraged.
A procession will follow with local Fire Service escort to Pleasant Valley Cemetery for a graveside service with a Last Call Bell ceremony provided by the Riley County Fire Dept.
The family request no flowers, instead memorials may be contributed to Riley County Firefighters Association, in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral
