Ross H. Updike, age 70, lifetime resident of the area, died suddenly at his home on Ovid-Lodi Townline Road on Monday, December 9, 2024.

 

Ross was born in Seneca Falls on May 7, 1954 a son of the late Malcolm and Patricia (nee Ike) Updike. He was a graduate of South Seneca High School and had been a competitive barrel racer as a member of the Interlaken Horsemen’s Association. He worked as a crop farmer with the VanVleet family on Tommy Creek Farms for 26 years before his retirement. Ross was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, while being a member of the South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club. He had many lifelong friendships and close ties with his family.

 

Ross is survived by his wife and partner of many years, Tracy Shaw Updike; his siblings, Dale (Karen) Updike of Trumansburg, Cindy (Todd) Allen of Rochester, Kim (Joe Keeler) Minges of Ovid and Karla (Dan) Golden of Trumansburg; several nieces and nephews; his wife’s family, Mike (Darlene) Shaw of Lodi, Pam Stephens of Manning, SC and Deborah Borning of Bokeelia, FL and their families, and his beloved cat, Nugget. He was preceded in death by his brother, Neal in 2021.

 

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. Interment services will be held at Lake View Cemetery in the Spring of 2025.
