"I don't know if God is a sports fan or not, but I do know this: He loves a good comeback." - Lane Kiffin
A woman who loved her family, the Lord, sports and music, Roxanna Joan Havelka passed away February 14, 2023, at the age of 70.
Roxanna, or Roxy as she was lovingly called, was born January 7, 1953, to Victor and Theresa Joan (Diegel) Havelka. She was the second oldest child and the oldest daughter. Growing up with her ten siblings in
Corpus Christi, Texas, Roxanna attended Catholic schools. Grades 1-8 she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School and continued her studies 9-12 at Incarnate Word Academy where she graduated from high school in 1971.
Over the years, Roxanna worked in many different areas. She did tax prep as a young adult, was the church secretary at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, and managed fast food restaurants in Texas and Arizona. Spreading her wings in 1987, Roxanna moved to Arizona where she built a new life and a new home for herself. She became a student at Arizona State University where she proudly earned an Associates Degree in Business. Some of her favorite memories include cruises and her fiftieth birthday celebration in Las Vegas with family and friends. Somewhere around 2005, after 18 years in Arizona, Roxy decided Texas was calling her back home and she returned to Corpus Christi for good.
Roxanna loved sports - especially football, baseball, and fishing. She loved watching college football and the Dallas Cowboys, and she rooted for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Houston Astros, and any baseball team her brother or nephews played for. She enjoyed card games and dominos. She had a love for playing the guitar and singing.
Roxanna was a passionate and loyal woman who loved her family. Devoted to the Lord and her Catholic faith, she often ended prayer with "thank you, Jesus; I love you!" Her family will also fondly remember her saying, "Yea, Buddy!" She was strong-willed, handy with tools and enjoyed her weekly trip to Acapulco Mexican Restaurant.
Roxanna leaves behind her siblings Mary Monica Havelka, Michael Anthony Havelka (Judy), Elizabeth Anne Havelka Price, Mark Richard Havelka (Cris), Suzan Andrea Havelka Rowe (Butch), Dorothy Jean George (Eddie), Melissa Havelka Polasek (Raymond), and Gerad Christopher Havelka. She was lovingly Aunt Roxy to many nieces and nephews. Sometimes, God sends a very special person into one's life; for Aunt Roxy, it was her nephew, Hayden. She was his biggest fan and he returned her love through it all. Roxanna is reunited with her parents Victor Havelka and Theresa Joan Diegel Havelka, her brothers Victor Havelka, Jr. and Ronald G Havelka, her brother-in-law Mitchell Price, her grandparents, and other relatives.
To honor Roxanna's life, a visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service - Yorktown Blvd, with a Holy Rosary and memory share beginning at 6:30 PM. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, at her request, by Monsignor Roger Smith, a life-long friend of the Havelka family. Mass will begin at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, with a committal service to follow at 1 PM at Seaside Memorial Park.
