TRAVERSE CITY - Roxanna May "Roxie" Polhamus, 61, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Villa of Traverse Pointe.
Roxanna was born on February 19, 1964, in Northport, the daughter of Norman and Helen (Priest) Polhamus.
In her younger years, Roxie loved the thrill of snowmobiling and spending time outdoors. She treasured fishing trips with her father and eagerly helped him with his many projects, including rebuilding a garden tractor. She also cherished gardening alongside her mother, sharing quiet moments among flowers and soil.
Roxie had a deep love for animals. Once, after finding an injured hawk on the roadside, she rescued it and brought it to rehabilitators-later experiencing the joy of releasing the recovered bird back into the wild. Her compassion extended to people as well. She had a warm sense of humor, loved to joke, and formed strong and meaningful friendships throughout her health journey.
Despite the challenges she faced, Roxie was incredibly courageous. She met her struggles with faith, optimism, and grace, never viewing her life as one of suffering. She lived with positivity, strength, and a deep love for her family.
A graduate of Leland High School, Roxie spent much of her life working in hospitality, where her kindness and lighthearted spirit touched many.
Roxie is survived by her sisters, Rose (Bob) Falberg and Jean (Bruce) Schlagel; and her niece, Hannah (Jake) Harley and great niece Mabel Harley.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12th at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13th at St. Mary's Church in Lake Leelanau. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.
