Roy Turner Brock, Jr., 95, Greenville, SC passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Onyx and Roy Turner Brock, Sr., brother James Moody Brock and daughter Nina (Walter) Thomason. Born June14, 1929 in Eufaula, Alabama. Graduated from Eufaula High School, selected for Boys State and graduated Auburn University with a BS in Pharmacy.

Roy worked as a pharmacist in Montgomery, Alabama with his days highlighted with visits from Hank Williams, Sr country musician. Roy soon shifted his career to pharmaceutical sales, joining the UPJOHN Co (now Pfizer) with the distinction of never filling out an application. He was a 5-time recipient of the W.E. UPJOHN award recognizing outstanding achievement in sales.

A Korea war veteran, Roy loved attending his local American Legion Post 214 in Taylors, SC meetings. One of his proudest moments was receiving the Quilt of Valor handmade quilt that was bestowed upon him in 2024. He was a member of Shriners and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. Roy was an active member of 60 years at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Toastmasters as well.

In retirement, Roy obtained his US Coast Guard license. He had much enjoyment moving boats through the locks from Michigan to Florida and the many trips he made from West Palm to the Bahamas with close friends. He enjoyed swimming at the Eastside YMCA, learning to swim in his late 70’s. Noone knew he did not know how to swim during all those years of owning a boat and teaching the neighborhood kids how to water ski.

He joined an international hot air balloon team after watching Freedom Weekend Aloft. His was one of the first American Balloonist teams given permission to balloon across the Great Wall of China, a wonderful experience for him. He was easily identified and known at the Indy 500, Clemson Games, Tryon Steeplechase in his beloved bookmobile “Beulah”. Roy loved his friends and never met a stranger. As he liked to say Rejoice and “Let the Good Times Roll”.

The family sends a huge thank you to Rosalyn Foster, MD and her team at Palmetto Family Medicine, Elizabeth Rogers at Gentiva Hospice, and the Gables on Pelham who all provided care and support to Roy and his family.

Roy is survived by his wife of 70 years Ruth, his daughter Nan Buckley (Mike), grandchildren Elizabeth Buckley, Tory Thomason, Pierce Thomason (Sarah), great grandchild Brooks Turner Thomason and son in law Walter Thomason.
