Roy Edward Browning,87, of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday September 20th, 2025 at Eaton Community Palliative Care.
Born October 19th, 1937, in Oceana West Virginia. Son of Carl Browning of West Virginia and Ruby Blankenship of Ohio. Roy came up to Michigan in the early 1950's, Eaton Rapids was meant to be a pit stop until he met his smalltown sweetheart Ms. Dorothy Stewart. In 1956 Roy and Dorothy married at the VFW Chapel in Eaton Rapids. In 1958 they welcomed their daughter Deborah Maria Browning into the world and a few years later in 1961 they welcomed their son, David Lawrence Browning, completing their little family.
Roy and Dorothy eventually planted their roots on what became the family farm just south of downtown Eaton Rapids. For several years Roy was in the tire business, first working at Sears and then opening his own tire shop (Browning Tire) right here in downtown Eaton Rapids. Roy loved to hunt and fish, his favorite things were teaching his kids and grandkids how to hunt and fish, camping with his family, teaching the grandkids anything he could about life, especially how to change a tire and your own oil, and later in life riding the quads with his great grandson. Roy was a stubborn old man who loved life.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Browning and Ruby Glickerson of West Virginia, wife Dorothy S. Browning of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan, son Dave L. Browning of Fife Lake, Michigan, brothers Donald Browning Sr. (Vernie Lester) of Kalamazoo Michigan, James Browning of Jackson, Michigan, Carl Browning Jr. (Elva Browning) of Charlston West Virginia, Harold Browning (Mattie Lee Browning) of Springfield, Ohio, Charles Browning of Oceana, West Virginia, and his sister Loretta McClure of Tampa, Florida.
Roy is survived by his daughter Deborah M. Marks (Jeff Marks) of Eaton Rapids, daughter in-law Audrey (Lipp) Browning of Fife Lake, Michigan, brother Nick Browning of Petersburg, Missouri, sister Ann Bailey of Fayetteville, West Virginia, sister in-law Lavada Browning of Howell, Michigan, 4 grandchildren, Maynard Backofen (Erin Williams) of Fife Lake Michigan, Alicia Heiple (Mike Heiple) of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Alexandria-Kaye Marks (Dennis Southwell) of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Casey Keckler (Butch Keckler)of Mason, Michigan and his 10 great grandchildren, Logan and Ella Hills of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Ricky Wing Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Richard, Rian, Payton, Kaydence, Elizebeth, Addi and Charliegh of Mason, Michigan.
There will be no funeral services for Roy, a celebration of life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids at 12:00pm, Saturday October 11th, 2025. For those desiring, memorial contributions can be made to Eaton Community Palliative Care in memory of Roy.
