Roy M Christenson, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Rye, CO on February 14, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Roy was born to Anton “Tony” and Beulah Christenson on June 6, 1941, and raised on the family ranch in Rye, CO. Alongside his parents, uncles and aunt he learned to become a steward of the land. Roy graduated in 1959 and served in the National Guard. Returning home he took his place on the ranch. In the shadow of the Greenhorn Mountain, he rode his horses, ranched, and lived. “If you want to travel and see the world fine, for me I’ll spend my final days right here. It is well with my soul.”~Roy
Roy was truly dedicated to the love of his life Shannon. Married in 1967 together they made a life and raised three children, living a life in service to God and each other. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always sharing his quick wit, advise and unwavering support. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-granddaughters. Roy was known for his kindness, integrity, honesty and love for the Lord. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, encouragement, wisdom, support and love.
Roy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Shannon, his parents, and other beloved family. He is survived by adoring children; Karon (Rocky) Banta, Carolyn (Jeramy) Frick and John (Cara) Christenson; grandson Dane Banta, granddaughters, Katelynn Frick (Xaden Ehrlich) and Danilynn Frick, Audree and Rosie Christenson, great granddaughters, Piper Banta and Emery Ehrlich. In addition to his family, he is survived by a loving extended family and multitude of friends.
To honor Roy’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at Brush Canyon Ranch, Rye, CO, on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Please join us at 11:00 am for fellowship and reminiscing with a memorial service to be held at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Brookside Cemetery, Rye, CO in Roy’s name. Donations may be made at the Bank of San Juans, or mailed c/o Karon Banta, PO Box 564, Rye, CO 81069. Please make checks payable to Brookside Cemetery.
