It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend Roy Clayton Clark, Jr. of
Alexandria, VA, Virginia on February 13, 2025. he He was 97 years old.
Roy (Clayton as he was known to some of his family) was born in Calhoun, Georgia on September 18, 1927. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1946 following World War II, where he proudly and meritoriously served for more than 26 years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, with overseas duty stations in Korea, Germany and Vietnam, and many stateside duty stations, including the Pentagon.
One stateside duty station was Detroit, Michigan, where he met and married his wife Audra Marie Ciel. Roy and Audra were happily married for 38 years.
While serving full time in the Army, he graduated Cum Laude from the University of Maryland. After retiring in 1972, Roy embarked on a second career as the Assistant Finance Director for the City of Alexandria. In both careers, he was especially talented at analyzing operations and implementing changes to make the organizations run more effectively.
Roy had a strong faith and passionately served his churches. He was a long-term member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Alexandria, Virginia, where he held many leadership positions, including Congregation President, Board of Elders Chairman and Financial Secretary. Roy was also a founding member of Saint Athanasius Lutheran Church in Vienna, Virginia, where he served as the Congregation President for many years.
Roy loved his family and enjoyed time with his sons and grandchildren, and returning to Calhoun, Georgia to visit his sisters. He also enjoyed gardening, golfing, biking, boating, visiting Kent Island and Mount Vernon, and cheering for the Washington Nationals.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sisters, Elizabeth Gillespie and Tommie Tindall. Roy is also survived by ; his sons, David and Robert Clark; daughters-in-law Shena Clark (nee Penn) and Queta Clark (nee Alvarado); and grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Sean, Alyssa and Caitlyn Clark.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audra Clark; his parents Roy Clark, Sr. and Katie Blanche Clark; and sisters Sybil Hollaran and Frances McAfee.
All are welcome to a Visitation on Saturday, March 15th from 2:00-4:00 pm at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home in
Alexandria, VA Virginia. Burial with full military honors will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
