Roy was born to Della Mae Martin and Oran Chester Dewbre on November 11, 1943 in Cordell, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of six children.

Roy moved a great deal during his youth as his father was employed by the railroad. He lived in Cordell, Oklahoma, Wilmore, Kansas, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma and Clinton, Oklahoma and graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. He later moved to Tyrone, Oklahoma to live with one of his oldest brothers, T.O. Dewbre and his wife Ruby, and to work. While living there in the summer of 1961, he met the love of his life, Judith Anne Farmer and they both went on to attend Southwest State College which is now known as Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). He graduated with a degree in Social Studies and a minor in Psychology. He and Judy married on September 6, 1964 and upon graduation accepted teaching jobs from Mr. Norris Nye at a career fair held at SWOSU. They moved to Lamar, Colorado in 1965. In 1967, Roy was drafted by the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort Gordon Georgia. They left Lamar and moved across the United States to Georgia so Roy could serve, which he did from 1967 to 1969. Roy and Judy were given the opportunity to return to Lamar to teach once Roy was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Pregnant with their first child, Kara Lynn (Dewbre) Ratzlaff, they set off for Lamar and returned to teaching. Soon after Kara was born they welcomed a second child, Brian Neal Dewbre. Roy immersed himself in teaching and coaching for the Lamar School District. He had a hand in coaching football, track, basketball and even high school golf, a sport he was passionate about and loved to play. Roy’s coaching and teaching years for the district spanned from 1965 to 1980 at which time he resigned and took on the job of manager at the Spreading Antlers Golf Club. While managing this business, Roy attained his Class A PGA Status and was employed there until 2009. In between those years, in 1978, Roy and Judy welcomed a set of twins, Ryan Leslie Dewbre and Amy Nicole Dewbre. Amy passed away at the tender age of 10 months due to complications from an illness. In addition to managing the business and raising his children with his wife, he also managed to coach the Lamar Community College Golf Team from 1989 to 2024. His teaching and coaching career spanned 59 years in this community and he leaves behind his legacy to his children and to the many young lives he touched while coaching. He was a loving husband, father, papa, and soon to be great grandpapa. He will be missed by his family and friends. Roy passed away suddenly at his home on December 9, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Judith Anne (Farmer) Dewbre, a daughter, Amy Nicole Dewbre, his parents Oran Chester and Della Mae Dewbre, his in-laws Ralph O’Rear and Mildred Maxine Farmer, his brothers, Chet Dewbre, T.O. Dewbre, Kenneth Dewbre, and his sisters, Charlene (Dewbre) Barber, and Patricia (Dewbre) Womack.

He is survived by his children Kara and Konrad Ratzlaff of Lamar, Colorado,  Brian and Melanie Dewbre of Douglasville, Georgia and Ryan Leslie and Jenyl Dewbre of Madison, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kodiak, Payden, Anne Marie, Michael, Jasen, Owen, Jack, Ally and a great grandchild on the way, Greyson. Also surviving are his brother–in-laws Earl Barber and Leland Womack. He also is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family also wishes to recognize the many student athletes that were touched in some way by Roy’s life. It was a life well lived.
