Roy Edward Dossey, SR.

87 of Chandler, AZ, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, coach, mentor, race car driver, businessman and friend to all that knew him passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2024, surrounded by family.

A 2nd generation Arizonan, Roy was born October 27th, 1937, in Phoenix, Arizona to Ed and Lorraine Dossey.

Roy was the oldest of four children, sisters Janice and Sandy and brother Rick.

The Dossey family moved to Chandler in 1947 where Roy would spend the rest of his life. Being from Chandler was something Roy was always very proud of, especially his many lifelong “Chandler” friends.

After graduating from Chandler High School in 1955 he attended ASU. He also enlisted in the Arizona Army National Guard as an artilleryman where he would attain the rank of sergeant.

In 1956, Roy went to work as an apprentice plumber for his Grandfather Roy Brooks while he was also attending plumbing school. He went on to complete plumbing school in 1960 as a master plumber.

Roy met the love of his life Joanne (Joie) Black in 1959, they were married on October 7th, 1961, and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Roy and Joie had their first child Catherine (Cathi) in 1962, and while pregnant with Julie, in 1963, the pair started Roy Dossey Plumbing. With nothing but determination, honesty, and a strong work ethic they proudly created an incredible legacy that has been serving Chandler for the last 61 years. Their son Roy Jr. (Chipper) was born in 1967 and daughter Amy in 1971.

Roy was known to anyone that worked for him as “The Doctor of Drains”.

Some of Roy’s passions were racing (especially NHRA drag racing), rodeo, partnering with Joie in tennis, and any sport that his kids or grandkids were playing. Roy also loved cheering for The Sun Devils, Suns, Diamondbacks, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Roy is survived by his wife Joie; children, Cathi Sutherland (Steve), Julie Ahlquist (Clay), Roy “Chipper” Dossey Jr. (Jara) and Amy Erickson (Shannon); grandchildren, Scott Sutherland (Rhiannon), Justin Sutherland (Amy), Tyler Ahlquist, Roy Dossey III, Hannah Ahlquist, Jake Sutherland, Bradley Erickson, Jeffrey Erickson and Tennessee Dossey; great grandchildren Harper Sutherland, Jett Sutherland, Rio Sutherland, Tex Sutherland, Crosby Sutherland and Saylor Sutherland.

Roy will always be remembered as “The Real Chandler Plumber”.
