Mr. Roy Lee "Root" Elks Jr., 84, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 13th, 2025.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11 am in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville.
Mr. Elks was born in Pitt County, served in the United States Army, and moved to Bell Arthur in 1972. He was a member of Bell Arthur Christian Church. Mr. Elks was in the Bell Arthur Fire Department since 1972 and later became the president of the Fire Department. He was also employed by Collins & Aikman Corporation of Farmville for over 40 years. He loved fishing and tractors, and enjoyed watching car races and wrestling. He loved his adventures with his brothers. Mr. Elks loved all of his family, and he had a special relationship with his brothers. He loved gathering with friends and having cookouts. He had a special bond with the guys at the Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Sr. and Percy P. Elks; sisters Bessie Elks Briley, and Alice Marie Elks; brothers, John, LT, Jimmie, & William Elks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy W. Elks; sister, Lou Elks Moore & husband Roger; brother, Ray Elks and wife Nancy; sister in laws, Reita Elks, Barbara Elks, Faye Elks Duncan, & Sandra Elks; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial contributions in Roy Lee's Honor may be made to the Bell Arthur Christian Church Building Fund, 2611 Fire House Road, Bell Arthur, NC 27834.
