Roy Finney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Teeters' Funeral Chapel (a.k.a. Teeters' East Chapel) on Oct. 1, 2025.
Roy Allen Finney, Sr.
Sept. 16, 1946 – August 27, 2025
Roy Allen Finney, Sr., 78, born September 16, 1946 in Havertown, PA, and long-time resident of Tafton, PA, passed away on August 27, 2025, in Paupack, PA.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Donnamarie Finney; his children and their families: daughter Tracy Finney and sons Otto and Finn Hintermister; daughter Lori Dye, husband Charles, and their children Lane and Carter; daughter Addie Brennan, husband Billy, and their daughters Darby and Libby; son Roy Finney, Jr., wife Gretchen, and their children Alena and Roy III; and son Christopher Finney, wife JoAnna, and their sons Asher and Knox. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Christine Finney, and his sister, Audrey Faller.
Roy graduated from Wallenpaupack Area High School in 1964 and later taught reading there for sixteen years. Roy was the proud founder and owner of The Boat Shop, a cornerstone of the Lake Wallenpaupack community. He was known for his deep love of boating and water sports, especially skiing with his family. He enjoyed sharing his passion for the lake with others, which laid the foundation for his successful business.
Roy was competitive and active. He was immersed in tennis and pickleball, particularly during his winters in Longboat Key, Florida. Roy also loved his animals, the farm, hunting club, shooting, reading extensively, his daily Manhattan, growing and eating corn-on-the cob, motors and mechanics as reflected by his hobby of collecting, driving, and mostly "polishing" his many cars and his motorcycle.
Roy was resolute in his values and tenacious in living up to them. His commitments to work, to his family, to his friends, and to his lifestyle accepted no limitations or excuses. He embraced life fully, unapologetically and was stubborn in the very best sense: refusing to accept aging or limitation, and living each day with passion, grit, and joy.
Viewing will be held at Teeter's Funeral Chapel, 507 Church Street, Hawley, PA on September 3rd from 4:00PM to 7:30PM, and Thursday September 4th from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, followed by a Celebration of Life. A final remembrance event for his ashes to be returned to Lake Wallenpaupack, the place he loved and called home, will be scheduled at a later date.
Roy will be remembered not only for what he built, but for the way he lived - with energy, passion, strong emotions, and a uniquely unforgettable style.
Donations in Roy's memory may be made to the Roy A. Finney Scholarship Fund, c/o The Boat Shop, PO Box 223, Tafton, PA 18464.
