Roy Leon Gavitt

Roy Leon Gavitt, 61, of Stoneville, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Hunter Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. 

 Roy was born in Hornell, NY to the late Harold and Eureka Sinks Gavitt. At the age of 16, he left home carrying only his duffle bag and a dream of also getting a job. He worked hard and was a Supervisor with Flatiron when he reluctantly retired due to his health. The last two years Roy fought very hard to enjoy what time he had left on this earth and spend as much time as possible with family and friends. When he was not working his regular job, he was still working, he loved spending time outdoors, whether it be operating heavy equipment, fishing, boating and tending to his farm animals of chickens, goats, pigs and cattle. He was always kind to others and had an extremely positive outlook on life. 

Roy is survived by his children, Heather Diver and husband, Ryan, and Brandon Gavitt; grandchildren, Ally, Mason and Owen Diver; brothers, Jim Gavitt and wife, Lisa, Todd Gavitt and wife, Rhonda; cherished companion, Dale Parks; and his beloved canine, Lucy; niece, Melissa McConnell.
