Roy Joe Green peacefully passed away in his home at the age of 90 on March 2, 2024 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Roy Joe Green was born on August 13, 1933, in Caddo, Oklahoma to Anna Pearl Springer Green and Lewis Bert Green. Joe was one of seven siblings. He served in the Navy as a Yeoman, until being honorably discharged in 1961. After knowing each other for only four months, Joe married Amelia Elaine Boucher on December 23, 1964. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last December. Together, they had one child, Beverly Diane Green.
Joe graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1951. He earned his B.S. in education from Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK in 1955, and later earned his M.A. in education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales New Mexico in 1959. He served in education for 34 years. He was a teacher, coach, drug education coordinator, truant officer, director of transportation, and a principal during his years in education. His favorite position was teaching in the classroom.
Joe was a very talented athlete. He excelled in baseball and football. In 2012, he was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding football skills at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. (1951-1953)
He excelled in hunting, fishing, lapidary work, working on Volkswagons, gardening, and woodworking.
Joe is survived by his wife Elaine; his daughter Beverly; and his sisters Lorena Rackley, Voncille Edmonds, Carolyn Bryant, Ann Shadle, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Pearl Green; brothers Worsham Green and Vaden Green.
