Gene Hatcher, age 88, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026 at Baptist Homes of Shelbina in Shelbina, MO.

Gene was born on March 21, 1937 in Shelbina, MO, the son of Roy Guymon and Ina Mae (Thomas) Hatcher. Gene attended Shelbina Public Schools graduating in 1955. In the fall of 1955, he entered St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. On September 8, 1957 Gene Hatcher was united in marriage to Patsy Jo (Pat) Garrison, daughter of Melvin & Lillie Mae Olbert Garrison at the Shelbina Christian Church by the late Rev. J.L. Shoemaker. Gene graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy with a B.S. Degree in Pharmacy in 1959. Gene & Pat then moved to Shelbina, MO. Gene was employed at Hickey Drug. In January 1960, they bought part interest of Hickey Drug from George & Evelyn Hickey. In 1965 they bought controlling interest of Hickey's from Evelyn Hickey. He then owned & operated the pharmacy for about 40 years, where he employed over 100 kids of which 13 went on to become pharmacists.

He was an elder at the Shelbina Christian Church where he taught Sunday School & took part in High School activities at the church. Gene also loved watching & rooting for the Mizzou Tigers & St. Louis Cardinals. Gene was an avid South Shelby fan, attending many events & filming football games from when they played at Shelbina High School field until 1985. In 2021 Gene & Pat were honored as the Grand Marshalls of the Farmer's Day Parade.

Gene is survived by three children, his daughter, Karen Jo (Paul) Bowen of Callao, MO, and their daughter, Crystal Myers of Sparks, NV, and her children, Savannah and Sara, their son, Andy (Oakley) Bowen of St. Joseph, MO, and his children, Easton and Logan; son, Curtis Wesley (Ann) Hatcher of Columbia, MO, their son, Chad (Courtney) Hatcher of Raymore, MO, and his children, Addison, Reagan, and Kennedy, their son, Brett (Kerra) Hatcher and children, Emaline, Lainey, and Wilson, and their son, Corey (Meghan) Hatcher of Austin, TX; son, Gregory Alan (Barb) Hatcher of Troy, MO, their daughter, Monica (Mark) Roettger of Troy, MO, and her children, Maxine and Maggie; son, Tyler (Shelby) Hatcher of Olathe, KS and his children, Frankie and Murphy; daughter, Nicole Hatcher (Tre) and son, Jay; and daughter, Molly Hatcher of Troy, MO; a sister, Ina Ruth Hoover of Monroe City, MO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Jo (Pat) Hatcher; his parents; and sister, Nina Davis and her husband, Jerry; two sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Heathman and her husband, Logan and Margaret Magruder and her husband, James Henry.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2024 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11 am at Shelbina Christian Church, followed with the burial in Shelbina Cemetery in Shelbina, MO. Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Shiloh Christian Children's Home, and Shelbina Christian Church.
