In Loving Memory of Roy Grady Hill Sr.

Roy Grady Hill Sr. was born on May 28, 1928, in St. Paul, Bladen County, North Carolina, to Jamie "Willie" Hill and Ella Jane McMillan. The youngest of eight children, Roy was predeceased by all of his siblings: Garfield Hill, James Stewart Hill, Benjamin Hill, Rudolph Hill, Elizabeth Hill (his only sister), RC McLean and Theodore McLean.

Roy lost his mother at the tender age of two. By fifteen, he had set out on his own, working tirelessly in the cotton fields across North and South Carolina. At seventeen, he met the love of his life, Thelia Mae Washington. Though their time together was limited in those early years, their bond endured, and they eventually wedded. Their union lasted an extraordinary 75 years and during that time they were blessed with three children: Gracie (deceased), Roy Jr. and Sheila.

Roy was preceded in death by his dear daughter Gracie on January 10, 2013 and his beloved wife, Thelia, on July 16, 2024

A quiet, respectful, and gentle soul, Roy was cherished by all who knew him. His soft-spoken nature and unwavering devotion to family andGod defined his character. He was a true family man, always striving to create a better life for those he loved. His journey took him and his family from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and finally to New Jersey, where their family ultimately settled.

Roy leaves behind his son, Roy Jr., his daughter, Sheila and his daughter-in-law Libby (Roy Jr.'s wife).

Roy was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Christopher, Krystle and granddaughter in-law Colette Ulanmo. Roy had the honor and privilege of being a great grandfather to Aurora, Aubrianna, Gaige and Bryson and had a special relationship with Arian and Addison. Roy also embraced many others as grandchildren and great grandchildren, including: Tory & Taylor James, Darielle Moore, McKayla & McKenzie Stratford and Unique Jones just to name a few.

He held a special place in his heart for his niece, little Kim Winston, and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Roy Grady Hill Sr. will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, strength, and quiet dignity lives on. He is now reunited with his beloved Thelia-forever remembered, never forgotten.
