Roy Lee Jackson

Roy Lee Jackson, age 82, passed away on February 11, 2026 at the Commonwealth Senior Living Center, in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.

Roy was born in Raven, Virginia on June 5, 1943 to the late Elsie Lorraine Dye and Carlos William Jackson. Roy attended Richlands High School, playing football and working at the Rexall Drug Store. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas in Nuremberg, Germany. Roy was a barber in his early life, taking after his father and uncle in the profession. In 1974, Roy joined the Arlington County Fire Department and worked there for twenty years, rising to the rank of Battalion Chief, before retiring in 1994. He returned to barbering in his retirement, and he owned and operated his shop for many years. He later settled in North Tazewell.

Roy had many notable accomplishments. He finished the Marine Corps marathon in 1983. He completed 2 college degrees, the first in Fire Science and the second in auto mechanics. He was very handy and built many structures throughout his life, including barns, yard buildings, decks, and fences. He also managed the construction of a bridge, house and indoor pool.

In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his brother, Norman.

Memorial services for Roy Lee Jackson will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA, with the Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of service. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct Military Rites.
