Elkin Funeral ServiceRoy James Johnson Jr., of Dolores, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted family. Born in Ohio to Roy James Johnson Sr. and Eva Mae Sheets Johnson, Roy was a man of deep compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity.
He carried the values of his upbringing with pride and lived each day with a spirit of kindness that touched everyone around him. He had a deep love for performing native bear dances. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his selflessness, and the way he made everyone feel seen and valued.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his beloved nephew Joshua Michael Hazelwood and cherished niece Santana Thompson.
Roy is survived by his loving sisters, Tammy Hazelwood, Eva Yazell, and her wife, Maleah, and nephew Eric Hazelwood. All who knew him not only as a brother but as a source of support and laughter. He also leaves behind his aunt Mildred Conley, Dorothy Shepherd, and a large extended family of cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who brought him immense joy: Ashton Fulp, Makayla Yazell, Skyler Gibbons, Camryn Thompson, K'Miyah Thompson, Kimora Thompson, Kobe Thompson, Kimara Thompson, and Cassidy Thompson, special friend Marissa Collins. Roy shared a special, fatherly bond with Camryn, K’Myah, and K'Mora Thompson, caring for them with the tenderness and devotion of a parent. He celebrated their milestones, comforted them in times of need, and loved them as if they were his own children. He is also survived by his loving companion, Beth Willard, whose partnership brought him peace and joy, and by a circle of close friends, including Marissa Collins and his Cousins, who spoke and talked to him every day. Sonya Williams, Diana Shrewbury, Gracie Ann, Theresa Conley, Johnny Burts, Rick Hayes, Barney Hayes, and many dear cousins. Roy was known as the best brother in the world and a great uncle whose heart was as expansive as his smile.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Marie McGhee, Kobe Thompson, Tina Chambers, and singing by Sonya Williams. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Yadkinville Cemetery. Special thanks to Paul Bearers, as Jr loved every one of you. Maleah Yazell, Skyler Gibbons, Kobe Thompson, Cassidy Thompson, Ashton Fulp, Sam Beverly.
