Roy William McGuire, 86, an Alvin resident since 1977, passed away peacefully March 19, 2025.
He was born July 29, 1938 in Gorman, Texas to Ross William McGuire and Ensie Mae Boyd McGuire. Roy married his loving wife Doris Presley January 26, 1967.
Roy graduated with the Deleon High School Class of 1956. Following his graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Johnsville, PA where he was a part of the "Conquest" program and trained with the seven original astronauts. He proudly served his country until 1961.
Roy went on to attain his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Texas Tech University in 1964 and then a Master of Science degree in Microbiology from Oklahoma University in 1967.
The majority of Roy's career was spent dedicating his life to medical research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas and UTMB Shriners Hospital in Galveston, Texas.
He leaves behind a legacy in his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Doris McGuire; son John McGuire, of Alvin; daughter Rhonda Pucek of Alvin; daughter Sherry of Rosharon; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great niece Amanda Loy.
He was a member of the South Park Baptist Church, where enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years.
Funeral services celebrating Roy's life were held Monday March 24, 2025 at South Park Baptist Church with Brother Chad Bertrand officiating. Pall-Barrers were: John McGuire, Michael Mitchell, Edward Pucek; Edward Pucek Jr., Elliot Pucek and Ethan Pucek
Buriel will be Tuesday March 25, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Deleon Cemetery in Deleon, Texas for immediate family.
