Roy Prewitt Jr. Obituary

Roy Alvin Prewitt, Jr., a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 79. Roy was born on March 26, 1945, in Beaumont, Texas. Roy graduated from Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, Louisiana in 1963, and then earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. Roy was drafted to the U.S. Army in 1968. He served his country bravely in Vietnam, as a Calibration Specialist, earning the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a true patriot and held the utmost respect for his country, active duty military and other veterans. Roy was well respected in his lifelong career of Electrical Engineering and was licensed as a Professional Engineer. He worked for many prestigious companies over the years, and even owned his own company, Control Enterprises, Inc. Roy also taught classes at Southwest Community College in Summit, Mississippi, training future electricians. Roy was a country boy at heart. His hobbies included farming, hunting and fishing. He was a skilled woodworker, creating many beautiful custom pieces of furniture. He loved all LSU sports and always greeted fellow LSU fans with a hearty "Go Tigers!" Roy loved his family and treasured his seven grandchildren. He supported them fully at all their activities. Roy was known for his deep Christian faith and was a man of integrity. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Sandra Slack Prewitt, his parents, Roy Alvin Prewitt, Sr. and Audrey Dowies Prewitt and his brothers-in-law, Bobby Slack, Carroll Slack, and Fred Price. Roy is survived by his brother, Alton Prewitt (Cindy), daughter, Rebecca Compretta (Jeremy), son Stephen Prewitt (Trisha), seven grandchildren, Kyle, Margaret, William and Gabriel Compretta, Evan, Samuel and Matthew Prewitt; sisters-in-law Anne Price and Linda Slack; and nieces and nephews Stephanie Allen, Craig Slack (Sylvia), Paul Slack (Jennifer), Chris Prewitt (Katie) and Bryan Prewitt (Valerie). Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 8:30 a.m. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.

To Stephen and Rebecca,

Your parents and entire family were a blessing to many through your Church and with The Dunham School. So many fond memories of youth sports and other activities. Always with a Christian spirit of service and gratitude. Your families will carry on their legacy for sure. Thank you for your friendship. God Bless You Always. The Roedel Family.

He was fun to work with.
I had an uncle who lived in Elizabeth.
